Disruptive Innovation vs. Disruptive Revelation

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

In a recent USA Today article, world renown physicist Stephen Hawking was credited for raising alarms that humankind must shape up if it hopes to survive. Mr. Hawking also alluded to the growing threat of artificial intelligence in previous interviews. His concern is that it could grow so powerful that it would be capable of unintentionally wiping out humans. Before you think this blog is a dooms-day tangent, keep in mind that technology has made our world better. However, there’s a bigger threat than machines ruling the world. We cannot ignore the more we advance in technology, the more we regress in the way we treat each other. Our biggest concerns aren’t machines, but the dehumanization of the soul.

Out of Control Soul

Mr. Hawking’s statement came in an interview with The Times, which is one of London’s daily newspaper. He stated, “Since civilization began, aggression has been useful inasmuch as it has definite survival advantages”. His observation stems from Darwin’s theory of evolution with claims humans evolved from animals. He referred to aggression as a genetic hard-wiring. Mr. Hawking continued by saying, “…technology has advanced at such a pace that this aggression may destroy us all by nuclear or biological war. We need to control this inherit distinction by our logic and reason.”

He also mentioned that a world government that allows us to work together might be a possible solution, but I believe the reality of the dehumanization of the soul made him think twice as he stated, “But that world government] might become a tyranny”.

The question remains. How can we control an out of control world? If the world’s smartest person cannot figure it out, we must look to solutions beyond human logic.

Humans must figure out how to regain control of the aggression to survive. We must acknowledge that the human soul is out of control and look inwardly for answers.

I don’t support Darwin’s theory of evolution, but I believe he was correct in making the correlation between humans and animals when it comes to behavior. Animals have a natural tendency to pursue power at all cost, and the same is true for humans. We live in a world where tyrants believe they can use technology to rule the planet. For years, this reality has played out on the silver screen, and history has built the biggest stage where the desire for world dominance has plagued the human race. However, the plot starts within the human soul. Our world is out of control because we have tolerated an out of control soul.

Disruptive Innovation

Clay Christensen is a religious leader and Professor of Business Administration for the Harvard Business School. He is known as the father of Disruptive Innovation, which is a term he coined to describe the process by which a product or service takes root initially in simple applications at the bottom of a market and then relentlessly moves up market, eventually displacing established competitors. A good example of how an industry can be disrupted is IKEA. The Swedish furniture giant disrupted the furniture industry by offering customers furniture they could assemble themselves.

One of the most attractive characteristics about disruptive products and services is they make life easier. Case in point, the computer evolved from a large vacuum tube laden machine that was housed in a building, to computing power made to fit in the palm of the hand.

On the horizon are technologies like cloud computing which drives email service, online banking, and social media platforms. Cloud computing is making way for machines to teach themselves by analyzing data from various devices we use in everyday activities. Cars are joining the ranks with App technology that enable giants like Uber and Lyft to displace the traditional taxi service. They use geo-tracking technology to match drivers and riders based on proximity and need. I’m sure Henry Ford didn’t see this coming, but driver-less cars and smart home technology are undergoing major changes in the disruptive innovation model?

The evolution of technology is one of the most amazing spectacles of our time. However, the most despicable part of the spectacle is to witness machines with a stronger commitment to purpose than humans.

The commitment to purpose by machines was clearly portrayed in the movie I Robot with one of my favorite actors, Will Smith. Sonny, the human-like robot was more unique than all the robots of his time. In the epic battle of machine vs. machine, Sonny confronted V.I.K.I., who was the mainframe architect that mobilized an army of robots to save humans from themselves. He stated, “Do you think we were all created for a purpose? I’d like to think so”. After looking at his hands, Sonny stated, “Denser alloy, My father gave it to me. I think he wanted me to kill you”.

Okay. This is a scene from a futurist movie, but we cannot deny that the current state of technology isn’t far from the movie. It’s absolutely mind-boggling to witness machines evolve into a purpose that surpasses humans.

Light Years Behind

Sonny had a moment where his purpose was so apparent that he moved to action. When I Robot was released in 2004, artificial intelligence wasn’t as advanced as it is today. Fast-forward to 2017 and machines are evolving on their own. Contrary to the benefits of an evolving computer technology, humans are devolving. Disruptive technology is moving at the speed of light, but the development of the human soul is light years behind technology.

America is a content rich country. It is known for having some of the top educational institutions in the world, along with mega churches and personalities who are known around the world as leaders in thought. Our country continues to house a small percentage of the world’s population, and at the same time, the fastest growing prison population on the planet. While everyone is reveling in the benefits of technological advancements, our country is in desperate need of a disruption in personal and spiritual development.

Before an industry is disrupted, all the indicators reveal very little changes until the new technology changes the way things are done like an IKEA. The same is true for personal and spiritual growth. Thought-leaders and ministers are speaking the same messages with very little change in the improvement of character.

Under the current conditions, we have a choice to either continue down the same path of insanity, or seek disruptive solutions to move the human soul to a higher place of purpose. If we fail to disrupt the way we empower people for personal and spiritual growth, the human race will remain on the fast track of extinction.

We must heed the words of Mr. Hawking and create new models for shaping up!

Disruptive Revelation

Creating new models for shaping up begins with examining Mr. Christensen’s three ingredients for disruptive innovation.

  1. Enabling Technology that lead to making a product more affordable and accessible

  2. Innovative business model attracts new customers who previously did not buy

  3. Coherent value network that leaves customers better off

I know you are probably thinking, what in the world this have to do with making people better? My answer to the question is – everything! We can use his three ingredients to build a framework for creating new models for advancing the purpose of the human soul.

First we must begin with revelation that will enable the intuitive side of purpose so people can have more control over their value. Regardless of their spiritual, intellectual, economic, and racial background, this new insight enables them to build more value for improving the human soul.

In spite the abundance of content in our country, it’s obvious the masses are less likely to buy in to the messages from thought and spiritual growth leaders. They listen long enough to tickle their ears and perhaps survive a pending crisis, but fail to transform messages into heart matter. Secondly, we must develop a model that allow us to speak in a manner that leverages the heart’s ability to manage the issues of life beyond entertainment and a pending crisis. By doing so, we will empower existing audiences and attract new listeners to our messages.

Lastly, we must expand the context in which we speak to our brand conscience world. People like brands they know, like and trust, but unfortunately, personal and spiritual growth brands have been damaged by the character of those who represent the brands. Thus, the masses see no value in buying into the brand, because the brand fails to deliver what it promised. The third and final solution for shaping up is creating a new value network that regains the trust of the masses. Purposeful character must be king, and it must speak volumes about the brand.

The new models for shaping up lead to what I call Disruptive Revelation. It’s the backbone of the Purpose Development Coaching industry that’s responsible for breaking down barriers that challenge the existence and performance of humanity. Personal and spiritual growth leaders have done a great job unlocking potential and increasing faith. However, Disruptive Revelation reveals a clear path to success that produces fruit consistent with the integrity of our Intelligent Design, and it’s the key to transforming faith into an action-plan for purpose.

Purpose Development is comprised of disruptive coaching strategies that displaces traditional coaching. It’s the only solution to the dehumanization of the soul because it contains wisdom and understanding to eliminate Purpose Deficit Disorders™ (PDD). Every person is at risk for suffering from PDD, which weakens our commitment to life’s purpose. The systems and strategies in Purpose Development Coaching fortifies our commitment to purpose beyond a robot’s commitment to execute the commands of artificial intelligence. It’s the most logical solution for curing the aggression problem that feed the appetite for power.

In short, if we desire to address the out of control soul, we must master skills to unlock the Inner Champion™, so the new net worth can emerge to help individuals play the game of life on the terms of purpose.
